10/12/16 – Puritans and the Mayflower Compact

Day in Review:

We began class by working on some vocabulary building activities. Following our Do Now we watched a short video on North American colonization.   Following the video we reviewed some primary sources related early forms of government.  We looked at the Mayflower Compact, and discussed how this showed some early thoughts on self-governance.  We then looked at the Puritans with a short overview, why they came to North America, and investigated two primary sources from Puritan leaders. Students were also given a guided reading packet to use while reading chapter 3 in their textbook.


Assignments and Resources:

In partners or small groups students were given copies of the Mayflower Compact and the answer sheet.  Reading the document students were asked to interpret the source and answer the questions.  Once completed, students were then given another set of primary sources from Puritan leaders and asked to interpret and answer questions related to the documents on a worksheet.  Resources provided are:
